Zeb

Del Rosario
Enterprise Systems Architect

Who are you, and what do you do? What do you like to do outside of work?

My name is Zeb Del Rosario, and I live in the tropical north region of Queensland, Australia.

I am an enterprise systems analyst / architect; I am essentially a technical business analyst who heavily leans into the technical space. I bridge the gap between the more conventional business analysts and developers in our organization, whilst collaborating with the subject matter experts to come up with solutions to solve problems, or provide value in some other way. Being an expert in these systems and its integrations also makes me the go-to person for troubleshooting.

I (am about to) have a degree in Computer Science, and apply programming paradigms and design principles to my job quite often!

I come from a background in hospitality and shifted careers when COVID hit; my initial IT job saw me work in managed service providers (MSPs) for a few years, and that allowed me to transition into my current role.

When I'm not working, you often find me at my desk studying; I am in my final semester and consider myself a more mature student, being in my 30s now (it's never too late!). I love playing games and hang out online with friends often.

If I'm not online you'll likely find me going for walks on the beach with the family, reading books, trying to cook a new dish, or window-shopping with the family.

What hardware do you use?

At home I use a custom-built rig; nothing amazing, just the newest parts for the big-ticket items: Ryzen 9800X3D, 4080 Super, etc.…no custom water-cooled loops or anything fancy!

I have an AOC CU34G2XP Ultrawide IPS monitor, with a smaller AOC monitor above it, on a vertical monitor stand.

For peripherals, I use the Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 SE, a Steelseries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless (PC Version), and the ZSA Voyager for my keyboard.

Other frequently used hardware includes about three different controllers, depending on what game/console I play, but I have recently acquired and been loving the GameSir G7 Pro with its awesome hardware!

I use an ergonomic office chair, and I use a lightbar to reduce eye strain. These have been my best ergonomic purchases by far (aside from the keyboard, of course!).

And what software?

For work and at home, I use a mix of VS Code, Microsoft 365 Products, and more recently, Neovim/tmux for coding script files, or just as a text editor to make it easier to read/transform data quickly.

When it comes to more complex projects that do better in a more integrated environment, I tend to use software designed specifically for that purpose; think IntelliJ for Java, Visual Studio for C#, etc.

For convenience in my Windows OS, at both work and home, I am a heavy PowerToys user, and prefer using a custom file system explorer like OneCommander to make it easy to quickly move files via a UI.

What’s your keyboard setup like? Do you use a custom layout or custom keycaps?

I have a mix of the standard layout's modifier and symbol keys, with minor modifications. The biggest difference is that I use Colemak-DHm, which was a decision I made before purchasing the Voyager; my brain associates hardware to a specific feel, so I figured having never used column stagger or split keyboards before, that this would be the perfect way to associate a more ergonomic layout to the new hardware feel, inside my brain. I know, it sounds weird!

I am considering a more conventional symbol layout like Miryoku layout; perhaps later this year!

I technically use custom keycaps, since I bought them directly from the manufacturers of the Choc Keycaps that come with the Voyager. I have blank keycaps purely to show off my hard work of learning to touch-type in my Colemak layout; I have to say this board is an amazing conversation starter at my workplace!

What would be your dream setup?

I tried building a makeshift tenting setup for the Voyager and thought it felt really good, so having a nice tenting kit for it would be amazing.

Alternatively, if the Voyager had a wireless version (hint hint, nudge nudge), it would be cool to have them mounted on my office chair; it would make me feel like Mr. Terrific, and that would be… Terrific! Haha.

A trackball like the Navigator, to replace my mouse for nongaming use, would be cool.

I would love to change my desk to be a large, adjustable battle station with monitor arms, and have a larger ultrawide monitor, at least 40+ inches.

Finally, to be really dreamy, a mini fridge under the desk!
