Lindsey Gunsallus
Senior 3D Artist and Comic CreatorWho are you, and what do you do? What do you like to do outside of work?
I’m Lindsey Gunsallus! Digital art nerd who loves comics, video games, and anime. For work, I’m a senior 3D artist at Epic Games working on Rocket League, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fortnite. Some of the cosmetics you have equipped in RL might be the very assets I created; it’s always a fun moment for me when I see them used in-game!
Outside of work, I’ve been writing short stories for fun, and in July of 2023, I launched the start of my webcomic series, ATHEOS, on Webtoon Canvas. When I’m not making art, I spend as much time as I can with friends and family.
What hardware do you use?
My personal PC is a few years old now and is in need of a few upgrades, but she still kicks: GeForce 1080Ti, 64GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 7 1700 eight-core, in a Phanteks Eclipse case. Every plug and port on it is occupied because of all the additional hardware on my desk.
I use my XP-Pen Artist 16 every day to draw, and because of the drawing tablet, I had a hard time with keyboard reach on a small-footprint desk. After a few months of drawing my comic and struggling with a frustrating setup, I found out about ZSA’s split keyboards and ordered the Moonlander. Each half sits on either side of my tablet in front of me while I draw, and it minimizes my movement and strain to hit all my hotkeys and type quickly. It has been pretty essential to my workflow comfort ever since.
And what software?
Most often I use Photoshop, Illustrator, Clip Studio Paint, Autodesk Maya, Zbrush, and Substance Painter for drawing my comic and making personal 3D projects! As for gaming, my PC has drowned in Overwatch, Apex Legends, and various RPGs over its dutiful years of service.
What’s your keyboard setup like? Do you use a custom layout or custom keycaps?
I don’t have any off-colored or custom keycaps because I like the clean original look of the Moonlander for my all-dark theme, but I did rearrange one or two keys! The default keycaps with Brown switches work best for me.
What would be your dream setup?
I pretty much have my dream setup! A new 4090 and upgraded processor notwithstanding, I don’t have room for any more upgrades, as my four-screened wall of light might suggest. Some folks chase RGB futuristic aesthetics, and I respect that look, but the darker neutral setup works best on my eyes for color-testing my art on multiple screens without colored light interference. Most of the time I’m working on this setup at night since my day job is on a different PC.
