Antwane Mason

Software Engineer

Who are you, and what do you do?

I’m Antwane. I am a software engineer with a background in formal methods and backend engineering seeking employment opportunities in the Atlanta area. I spend my spare time building experience in Rust, my new favorite programming language. Outside of programming, I continue to develop my fluency in Japanese and have recently been learning Hangul, the Korean alphabet.

What hardware do you use?

My preferred hardware is a Framework laptop along with an MX Ergo mouse.

And what software?

I use NixOS for my operating system to make it easy to experiment with new software and easily roll back to a working version of my system when I encounter issues. For software development, Neovim paired with the kickstart.nvim project has been a great resource to set up my editing environment for software development.

As for web browsing, I find that Vimium is a great extension for both the Firefox and Chromium ecosystems for navigating the browser solely through the keyboard.

What’s your keyboard setup like? Do you use a custom layout or custom keycaps?

I am using the ZSA Voyager exclusively for my keyboard and have it loaded with MX Blue key switches. My custom layout for the keyboard is inspired by the Miryoku project and uses a variant of Colemak called Colemak Mod-DH, which is optimized for columnar stagger and ortholinear keyboards.

Antwane's Layer 4 is all about navigation

I leverage the number row and use the tap dance feature to represent both square brackets with one key. This enables me to access every symbol without switching layers. I also have layers for navigation, function keys, media keys, and mouse emulation. As for keycaps, I use the blank key caps offered by ZSA.

What would be your dream setup?

My dream setup would be an upgraded version of the ZSA Voyager with either a roller ball or IBM-style pointing stick attachment. I would also like the keyboard to support wireless as well as wired connectivity. Finally, I would love to have a way to mount my keyboard to my laptop so that I can type comfortably in my lap.
