Taz Brown
Enterprise Agile Coach, Kanban Practitioner, Organizational Agility Strategist, and TrainerWho are you, and what do you do? What do you like to do outside of work?
I’m Taz, an Enterprise Agile Coach, Kanban Practitioner, Organizational Agility Strategist, and trainer with over two decades of experience in IT infrastructure, agile transformations, and technical coaching. My passion lies in helping teams and organizations achieve hyperperformance by blending modern agile methodologies with emotional intelligence and cutting-edge technology. I’m also an advocate for fostering innovation, continuous improvement, and impactful leadership through tailored coaching solutions.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I’m an author of three books, channeling my experiences and insights into writing. When I’m not coaching, training, or writing, you’ll often find me exploring new tech gadgets, engaging in philosophical discussions, or crafting systems to enhance productivity and creativity.
What hardware do you use?
My workspace is a harmonious blend of digital efficiency and analog charm. For computers, I use a small form factor desktop running the latest Ubuntu version for development tasks, and a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Max chip for writing and design projects. A 55-inch curved monitor’s immersive visuals are complemented by dual 27-inch Apple Studio Displays, each equipped with attached lighting to reduce eyestrain. My input devices are the Logitech MX Master 3S in Pale Gray, with its ergonomic design and precision, alongside an Apple Magic Trackpad for versatile navigation. An electric standing desk allows for adjustable working positions, and a desk mount securely holds my 13-inch iPad Pro (M4) for easy access and optimal viewing angles.
A Shure SM7dB Dynamic Vocal Microphone with a distinctive orange pop filter ensures crisp audio quality and is connected through a white RØDE RØDECaster Duo Compact All-in-One Audio Production Solution. An Elgato Prompter paired with the black Voyager, featuring custom yellow and blue cables from a specialized Etsy shop, adds a personalized touch.
For on-the-go productivity, I utilize the white Voyager Portable Work Station, which offers a compact and efficient solution for my mobile workspace needs. I employ the Ratta Supernote Manta for projects, consulting, and coaching. Its natural writing experience and durable design make it ideal for capturing ideas and organizing thoughts.
And what software?
To stay organized and innovative, I utilize a suite of powerful tools. Scrivener is my go-to for manuscript development, offering a comprehensive platform to structure and compose my books. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, and Slack facilitate communication with clients and teams across the globe.
Obsidian aids in Zettelkasten-based knowledge management, Todoist keeps my tasks organized, and eazyBI provides advanced analytics.
For structuring my training classes, I utilize the Atelier app on the Supernote Manta, which offers intuitive mind mapping capabilities to organize content effectively. Adobe Creative Cloud serves my design needs, and Airtime enhances my presentations and training sessions.
I leverage ChatGPT by OpenAI, Claude by Anthropic, and Google’s NotebookLM to enhance productivity and provide insights.
What’s your keyboard setup like? Do you use a custom layout or custom keycaps?
My keyboard is more than a tool—it’s the centerpiece of my productivity. I use a ZSA split keyboard with a custom ergonomic layout designed to minimize hand movement and maximize efficiency. The coiled cable adds a personal aesthetic touch, while the RGB backlighting sets the mood for deep work. My keycaps are a blend of sleek design and functionality, tailored to fit my unique workflow.
I’m an analog enthusiast at heart and love journaling with high-quality notebooks and fountain pens. Onion skin notebooks and notebooks with Tomoe River paper are my go-to for their ability to handle fountain pen ink beautifully. I have a growing collection of fountain pens, ranging from the iconic Montblanc Meisterstück 149 to the exquisite Pilot Custom Urushi Vermillion.
What would be your dream setup?
I pretty much have my dream setup already. Though I would like to have a 32-inch Apple XDR display with a monitor arm so I can use it vertically to fully complete it.
