Jonas Kwiedor
Software EngineerWho are you, and what do you do? What do you like to do outside of work?
My name is Jonas Kwiedor and I have a small company that specializes in software development for the e-commerce sector: the J&J Ideenschmiede! We program many interfaces to Shopware 6 and WooCommerce and build custom imports for large amounts of data. For this we mostly use Go language, and for caching data mostly Redis or redisJSON. In addition, there are always small software projects of our own, such as a time recording system that also creates invoices for us in our accounting software. And in general, we really try to automate many processes as effectively as possible—both in our company and with customers.
I work very much currently in my home office, because corona does not allow it otherwise.
In my free time I love to ride road bikes, which is a good thing to do here in Hamburg, Germany. Since last year, I added stand-up paddling was in the summer months. On the Alster, I like to drive along the small channels. In the cold months, I have been busy with 3D printing and printed some cool stuff and even designed some myself, as well as some spare parts my father asked for.
What hardware do you use?
I am currently working with a MacBook Pro 16” 2019 with the following configuration:
- 2.3 GHz Intel Core i9
- 32 GB DDR4
- AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB
The Macbook is actually always in a cradle, as I use an LG curved monitor as my monitor. The keyboard is, of course, the ErgoDox EZ Glow with the tilt/tent kit and the Wing custom ErgoDox EZ wrist rest.
As a mouse I currently use the Logitech G502 Lightspeed. And for my notes, I’ve been using a reMarkable2 since this year. Now I can finally find notes again. From time to time, I also use a Magic Trackpad 2.
And what software?
Since we work a lot with Go we decided to use a JetBrains IDE. This is called GoLand and is really great. Sometimes we also add Visual Studio Code for some files.
Otherwise we work on our servers with Linux and accordingly, much in the terminal. Because we use Go, we also work with Docker for almost every project.
From time to time we use redisInsight to take a closer look at redis databases. For all SQL databases, we recently started using Navicat.
We also work with Git for almost all projects. We use GitHub as a provider and also use GitKraken more and more, so we can keep track of everything.
What’s your keyboard setup like? Do you use a custom layout or custom keycaps?
I’m super happy with my current setup and wouldn’t want to miss anything. What I love about the ErgoDox EZ is the layout of the entire keyboard and the fact that you can easily change the configuration and the keycaps. In the past I tested some keyboards and was never really satisfied, then I saw your keyboard (ErgoDox EZ Glow) and I really wanted to test it. So I ordered this a few weeks ago and must say that I am very satisfied. After a few days of getting used to it, typing became easier and faster. Over time, I also noticed how the configuration is best for me. I refined this more and more.
I have adapted the layout a bit for the vertical middle keys and generally changed to a German layout, because you need this, unfortunately. Otherwise, I have optimized the key layout for me.
What would be your dream setup?
Since I’m currently in a home office, I’m very happy with my setup. I think I would decide against an ultra-wide monitor in the future and use two monitors + MacBook or three monitors. I am very happy with my MacBook.
