Jason Barry
Senior Software EngineerWho are you, and what do you do?
My name is Jason Barry and I’m from north Georgia. I’ve been a software engineer professionally for almost 12 years now, but have been working with the web since the late 90s. I’m currently a remote Senior Software Engineer at a healthcare company based out of Lincoln, Nebraska. I’ve worked at home for over 6 years now and I love it.
What hardware do you use?
My computer is a 2015 15” MacBook Pro that was provided to me by my work, which sits in a dock unless I’m traveling. I have two ErgoDox EZs. The first one is from the original batch of the Indigogo campaign with Cherry MX Blue switches and printed keycaps. I recently got a second one that has the LEDs with Kailh Thick Gold switches and blank keycaps. I also use a Logitech MX Ergo Plus trackball mouse and have two 22” Dell monitors. My desk is a Fully Jarvis bamboo sit/stand desk along with a mesh chair and Topo mat. You can read more in depth about my entire setup on this blog post.
And what software?
My text editor currently is Visual Studio Code, which is where I spend most of my development time. Some other apps I use on a daily basis are GitHub, Zoom, and Slack.
What’s your keyboard setup like? Do you use a custom layout or custom keycaps?
It’s mostly the standard ErgoDox EZ layout, but I’ve moved some keys around to improve the ergonomics of writing code. For instance, the equals key is on my left pinky where the default backspace is, and I’ve moved the command/control keys. You can see my layout here.
What would be your dream setup?
I think I’m almost at my dream setup. I would love to have some 4K monitors and a better mesh chair. I’m still looking around for some good keycaps to change some things up a bit.
